Deborah Lynn (Schmittauer) Carter

August 5, 1956 — March 25, 2025

London

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deborah Lynn (Schmittauer) Carter, a cherished mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, who left us on March 25, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Born on August 5, 1956, to John “Jack” and Catherine Schmittauer, Debbie lived a life filled with love, laughter, and countless cherished memories.

A proud graduate of London High School in 1974, she dedicated over 30 years of her life to St. John’s Lutheran Church, where her warmth and compassion deeply touched the community. Debbie found joy in the simplest pleasures, whether it was cooking her family’s favorite dishes or delighting in cooking shows. Her heart resonated with love for her family, and she treasured each moment spent with her grandchildren, traveling to countless baseball games and creating memories that will forever be etched in their hearts.

Debbie’s back porch was her sanctuary, where she found peace sitting at her picnic table, listening to the joyous sounds of nature around her. She embraced life with open arms and an open heart, finding beauty in every moment.

Debbie is survived by her daughter, Ashli (Matt) Carter, and her son, Kyle Carter. She is also lovingly remembered by her sister, Sandy Balderson, brother-in-law Rick Timmons, sister-in-law Sharon Carter, and her adoring grandchildren: Drew (Reese) Carter, Sam Carter, Jack Carter, and Ben Carter. Her spirit will continue to shine through her great granddaughter Wrenlee, as well as her faithful companions, dogs Paisley and Henry. In addition, she leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends who were blessed to know her.

Debbie is now reunited with her husband and the love of her life for 23 years, Steve Carter, as well as her parents, her beloved grandmother Lillian Fauver, and her sisters Terri Timmons and Patti Schmittauer. She is also preceded in death by her brother-in-law Mike Carter, sister-in-law Joyce Weir, and sister-in-law Carol Haller.

The family invites friends and loved ones to gather in remembrance of Debbie at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 380 Keny Blvd, London, Ohio 43140. Friends are welcome to call on Sunday, March 30, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, with a heartfelt funeral service to be held on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM. Following the service, Debbie will be laid to rest at Somerford Township Cemetery, where her spirit will be reunited with those she held dear.

Debbie’s love and kindness have left an indelible mark on all who knew her. She will be missed more than words can express but will remain forever in our hearts.
