Donald Edward Shannon

It is with great sadness, Donald Edward Shannon, age 71 of Columbus, OH, passed away on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at the Grant Medical Center. Don was born February 17, 1950 in Columbus, Ohio, the son of Norma Miller and Walter Shannon.

Don was a jack of all trades; including a mechanic. But in 1986, he worked as a maintenance man for an apartment complex which is where he met the love of his life Darlene “Kay” Bowen while fixing her toilet; and together they shared 36 beautiful years.

Don proudly served in the United States Army from September 1970 to January 1975 with the 82nd Airborne. He loved wearing camouflage, as it reminded him of his days in the Army. Though he did not attend church regularly, he most definitely was a believer. Don was a huge Ohio State fan and his favorite shows were: M.A.S.H., Star Trek and Andy Griffith. He also loved being outdoors and taking nature walks through the parks as well as playing euchre with friends.

Don is survived by his daughter: Shelly (Tony) Jones of Columbus; siblings: Patty (Gary) Warner of Ashtabula; Tom Shannon; Jim Shannon; both of Columbus; four grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Carlie Shannon.
