Janet Ellen (Lloyd) Orban

6/16/1947-9/7/2026

Janet Ellen (Lloyd) Orban, age 79, passed away on September 7, 2026, following a 5-year battle with metastatic ovarian cancer. In her death, as in her life, her loving daughters were at her side.

Janet was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and daughter.

Janet was born in Wheeling, West Virginia, the third child of Edward and Dorothy Lloyd. She graduated from St. John Central Catholic High School alongside her high school sweetheart, John Orban. They were married in July 1969. They built a wonderful life during their 56-year marriage until his passing in February of this year.

After high school, she attended the Bellaire School of Practical Nursing, obtaining her license in 1966. That year she began working as a nurse in various healthcare settings, starting with hospitals in both Oak Hill, West Virginia, and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her last nursing position was her self-proclaimed favorite. For more than 20 years, she was the full-time nurse for C. Michael Downey, M.D. At this job, she made friends who lasted her lifetime.

In 2000, Janet retired from nursing to begin her most important job, taking care of her first granddaughter when Melissa returned to work. Janet continued caring for her second and third granddaughters as well. This was a true blessing and immeasurable gift. This time spent created wonderful memories and remarkable bonds.

Janet was a resident of London, Ohio, for 47 years. During that time, she was a Eucharistic minister at St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a member of the Phi Beta Psi Sorority. Janet was an avid reader and, before her diagnosis, could be seen logging more than five miles of walking each day. Demonstrating her devotion to her family, she could always be found cheering on her granddaughters in all their endeavors.

She was preceded in death by her husband John, parents Edward and Dorothy, father-in-law and mother-in-law John and Helen Orban, brother Dennis (Rosemary) Lloyd, and sister Kathleen Kaluger.

Left to cherish her memory are: daughters Melissa (Ted) Gaston and Shannon (Shawn) Johnson; granddaughters Lindsay Gaston, Emily Gaston, and Kate Johnson; step-grandsons Alexander Johnson and Dalton Johnson; brother David Lloyd (Sue); brothers-in-law Roger (Barbara) Orban and Kevin (Debbie) Orban; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 12th, from 9:00-11:00 at Saints Simon and Jude Catholic Church, 9350 High Free Pike, West Jefferson, OH 43162, with a Mass immediately following at 11:00 AM. Private burial will take place at a later date.

During her battle with cancer, the kind and brilliant staff at The James Gynecologic Oncology Clinic at Mill Run took exceptional care of Janet. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to this clinic. https://giveto.osu.edu/makeagift/details/312286
