Jean E. Blain, a cherished member of the community, passed away peacefully on April 16, 2025, at the age of 93. Born on June 29, 1931, she was the beloved daughter of Irvin and Sylvia (Holloway) Blain.
Jean's roots ran deep in Madison County, where she spent her entire life. She was born and raised in the family home on Danville Road and carried the values of her upbringing into her dedicated career as an educator and her unwavering service to the community. A proud graduate of Madison Rural High School in 1948, Jean continued her academic journey at Wittenberg University, earning her degree on June 13, 1970. She started her career with the school using organizational skills as a secretary and then for over fifty years, she inspired young minds as a first and second-grade teacher.
A devoted member of the Newport Methodist Church, Jean was actively involved with the Newport Methodist Women’s group and took great pride in being a member of the retired teacher's association. Her impact as an educator extended beyond the classroom; she treasured the connections she made with former students and friends.
Jean is survived by a loving family that includes her nieces and nephews: Harold (Bearnie) Channel, Dean (Betty) Channel, Howard (Kathy) Tallman, Barb (Dave) Konkright, Debbie Tallman, Mary (Doug) Greaser, Jack (Nikki) Blain, Rebecca (Dan) Cress, Gary (Janet) Blain, and Linda (Ron) Wood, as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews. She leaves behind her dear friend Nancy Barck and a legion of former students who carry pieces of her legacy in their hearts.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved parents, her brothers Harold Blain and Howard Tallman, her sister Rebecca Channel Tallman, and her niece Ann Grieser.
The family will welcome friends and loved ones to honor Jean's memory and celebrate her life at a graveside service at Range Township Cemetery, scheduled for Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at 11:00 AM. All who knew and loved Jean are invited to join in this farewell, remembering her warmth, kindness, and the lasting impact she had on all who crossed her path.
