Lonnie Eugene Hammons

Lonnie Eugene Hammons, 69, of London, Ohio, passed away on September 1, 2026.

He was born September 14, 1956, in London, Ohio, the son of the late William "Billy" Eugene Hammons and Josie Geneva (Sparks) Hammons.

Lonnie enlisted in the United States Army Reserve on April 28, 1979, serving a six-year term, and was honorably discharged on April 27, 1985.

In his younger years, Lonnie worked at Clark's Gas Company in Urbana, Ohio, pumping gas; Ray Lewis & Son in Marysville, Ohio, as a machinist and in setup; and Orient State Institution in Orient, Ohio, as a janitor. He later worked at Gantner Screw Products in Springfield and G&S Manufacturing. He also worked at a body shop in Findlay, Ohio, where he prepped and painted cars.

Lonnie was a loving father, devoted son, and caring brother. He was known for his generosity — always willing to loan you anything he had — as well as his stubbornness and his fighting spirit. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, fixing cars, and flipping lawn mowers.

Lonnie is survived by his children, Josh Hammons and Gregory Hammons, both of London, Ohio, and Patricia "Niki" (Hammons) Cogossi (Anthony) of West Mansfield, Ohio. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Holden Banks and Haley Nicole Hammons (children of Josh), and Anthony (Desaray) Cogossi, Michael Cogossi, and Emily Cogossi (children of Niki and Anthony); his great-grandchild, Bowden (child of Michael); his uncle, Donnie Hammons, of London, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Billy" Eugene Hammons and Josie Geneva (Sparks) Hammons; his brother, Jack Hammons; and his sister, Brenda Kay (Hammons) Dennen.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at Lynch Family Funeral Home, 124 E. High St., London, Ohio 43140, on Saturday, September 26, 2026, beginning promptly at 11:00 a.m., followed by a celebration of life at 12:00 p.m. at the Della Selsor Building, Madison County Fairgrounds. A lunch will be provided by the family.
