Major Richard Wayne Hout

Major Dick Hout, and Army aviator, took his last flight on May 11, 2026. He was the first son of Charles and Eleanor Hout born on June 18, 1938. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend Jo Ann (Zimmerman) Hout. Also survived by daughters Dr. Tammy J. Schakett, Kimberly S. (Scott) Hewitt, two special granddaughters McKenna (Matthew) Kelley and Samantha Hewitt, Brother Ed (Janet) Hout, sisters Joann Plaster, and Elaine (Marty) Komives. Predeceased by his parents, brother Donald, son-in-law Stuart Schakett, and Larry Fleming.

Dick graduated from Leesville High School, Crawford County, class of 1956 and from Hampton University, Hampton VA, class of 1972 with a BA. He enlisted in the Army in 1956 as a helicopter mechanic, attended Army Flight School and was appointed Warrant Officer One in 1963. He was commissioned to 2LT in May of 1966. He retired as Major in February of 1977. He had a distinguished career as a helicopter mechanic, senior Army aviator, maintenance instructor, instructor pilot, unit commander, and various staff positions. He served two combat support tours in Vietnam. His many medals include 2 Bronze stars, 14 air medals, meritorious services award, and 4 Army commendations awards among many others.

After retiring from the Army, he worked in the real estate and insurance industries for 15 years before retiring in 2000.

His life guideposts were God and Country with his passion being his family, education, flying, devotion to the Army, wood carving, playing pool, camping, and traveling.

Visitation will be Monday, May 18, 2026, from 3pm to 7pm at Lynch Family Funeral Home, 124 East High Street, London, Ohio 43140. Graveside services and interment will be held at Ohio Western reserve National Cemetery with full military Honors.
