Ronald Dale Thayer

November 5, 1953 – October 9, 2026

Ronald Dale Thayer passed away on October 9, 2026, with his wife, Vickie Jean Hurtt-Thayer, by his side as he left his earthly body to go home to be with his mother and father, Wilfred and Delores Thayer, who preceded him in death.

His wife, Vickie, was his caregiver for the past three years at home until his passing.

The Thayers were married on October 8, 1994, and she and Ron were able to be together one last time on their 32nd wedding anniversary, October 8, just one day before he left his earthly body to be with Jehovah God; his parents; his nephew, Jordan Christopher Vega; his sister-in-law, Angela Dawn Douglas; and his wonderful in-laws, Joseph and Margaret Toht.

Ron, as he was known to everyone, was a retired Montgomery County Sheriff's Deputy and an ACTAR-certified accident reconstructionist who taught for OPOTA in London, Ohio.

Ron taught many officers throughout the state of Ohio, as well as surrounding states. He truly loved his career and was always willing to help anyone with their accident reconstruction questions, even on his days off from his teaching job.

Ron truly loved his career, his family, friends, and his pets. He also loved traveling, parks, reading, and antique shopping. Ron never passed up a restaurant that had a good breakfast menu. He would eat breakfast for three meals a day if he could.

Ron is survived by his wonderful sister-in-law, Christine Anne Hurtt, and her husband, John Leise; and his brother-in-law, Richard Douglas.

Ron's sister-in-law, Christine Hurtt, has always been a truly loving and wonderful support for her family, and Ron couldn't have asked for a better friend, sister, and support person for his wife, Vickie, during the difficult last three years of his life.

He is also survived by his little fur baby, Nika Bell, a miniature dachshund he fell in love with who was always by his side. She traveled with him and his wife everywhere they went.

He also had four feline fur babies: Charlotte, Tanner, Yuri, and Patches, all of whom miss him very much.

Anyone who knew Ron will remember him as the "accident guru" and a true friend.

He leaves behind his brothers, Rex, Russ, and Randy; his sister, Robin Smith; and many nieces, nephews, and stepchildren. He also leaves behind a good friend, Terry McClanahan, and a friend, Katie Keckley, who satisfied his hunger with her culinary skills.

“I fly alone, not one in a flock, high above the piercing eyes of a hawk, no greater feeling than to be free, one with Jehovah God and the eternal path he has painted for me.”
