Shirley Ann Watkins passed peacefully having lived a life full of love, family and friends on September 5th, 2026.
Shirley was born on February 22, 1945, to Lewis and Nancy Tingley. She spent both her early and later years all on their beloved family farm and cherished the space. Watching the deer, mowing the grass and sharing her memories with the younger generations.
Along with her sister Patty, they not only shared friends and social circles for most of their lives, but worked together in a cleaning business, spent many years volunteering with the LABC, supported one another’s children in every event and could always be found just under the announcers box for any London Red Raiders Home Football Game. You always knew right where to look for Shirley and Patty.
She was a loving Mother, Grand-Mother and Great-Grandmother. She raised two daughters, Kathy and Cindy and later a granddaughter, Erika, with a love and devotion so fierce that her loss will leave a void that can never be filled. She was ever present. For a Dr’s appointment (even in your 30s) or a phone call when you can’t sleep in the middle of the night, there was nothing she’d rather be doing than loving her family.
Her Great-Grandchildren became the highlight through her later years, and she never missed a school function, or a game of any kind. She spread the same love and devotion amongst those five children that she had for her own children and granddaughter. There was always more love to give and more energy to run and meet whatever need they had.
Many people share this loss with the family. To know Shirley was to love her, and she was so very loved.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Nancy Tingley, her daughter Cyndi Boyer Samples, her stepson David Watkins Jr, her son in law Jay W Ferrell II and her husband David Watkins Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Kathy Ferrell, Granddaughter Erika (Bary) Watkinson, Great Grandchildren Skylar (Kyra) Smith, Spencer Smith, Seann Smith, Syndi Smith, Sam Smith and Caleb (Sydney) Watkinson. Sister Patricia (Jerry) Downing, Nephews Brian, Mark and Doug Downing and their families.
