Tom V. Reed, CLU, ChFC
Tom V. Reed, CLU, ChFC, age 88, of Plain City, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 8, 2026.
Tom was the proprietor of Tom V. Reed & Associates, where he built a successful career in the insurance industry spanning more than 45 years. Throughout his professional life, he was committed to serving his clients with integrity, always striving to provide sound advice and insurance products tailored to their individual needs.
In addition to his insurance career, Tom was active in the farm construction business. Following the death of his father, he assumed management responsibilities for the family business, Ohio Steel Erectors, continuing a legacy of hard work and dedication.
Tom graduated from Monroe High School in Plumwood, Ohio, in 1956. He later attended The Ohio State University, where he resided in the dormitories located inside Ohio Stadium, affectionately known as “The Horseshoe.”
A proud patriot, Tom served his country in the United States Air Force with the 121st Tactical Fighter Wing. He was stationed in France with his unit during the Berlin Crisis of 1961–1962, an experience that remained a source of pride throughout his life.
Tom was also active in his community and served as a member of the Jonathan Alder Board of Education from 1970 to 1974, contributing his time and leadership to local education.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Paul V. Reed and Helen Margaret (Oyler) Reed; his sister, Judy McGinnis; his parents-in-law, Nick and Louise (Brennan) Carter; and his brothers-in-law, Bill Carter and Richard Carter.
He shared 45 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Katherine Reed (Carter), whose loving care and devotion enriched his life.
Tom is survived by his wife, Katherine Reed; his children, Paula (Reed) Thomas (Andrew), Laurie (Reed) Westman, (Michael); his step-son, David (Dawn) Deyo; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; his aunt, Jeanne Evans of California; and many cherished nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members, and friends.
Tom will be remembered for his unwavering work ethic, dedication to his family, commitment to his clients, service to his country, and the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
Tom's family will receive friends for a visitation on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Lynch Family Funeral Home, 124 East High Street, London, Ohio 43140. A graveside service will immediately follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Tom's memory may be made to the Madison County Humane Society, 2020 State Route 142 NE, West Jefferson, Ohio 43162.
