Bret Mayne, 59, died October 29, 2022 in Key West, FL. Bret was born July 20,1963 in Oshkosh, WI, the son of Burton and Opal (Gilman) Mayne.
Bret was a 1981 graduate of Oshkosh North High School and went on to attend Ohio University where he spent most of his time in the pool as a member of the diving team, and at the Fiji house with his beloved fraternity brothers, many of whom he maintained relationships with well beyond his college years.
Raised in Oshkosh and later a London, OH resident, Bret’s Wisconsin and Midwestern roots ran deep- an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, the Wisconsin Badgers, The Ohio State Buckeyes, the Chicago Cubs, and Cranky Pat’s Pizza. He was happiest with a cold beer in one hand while he grilled over charcoal for as many people as he could feed- sports blaring from the television inside and classic rock blaring from the speaker outside.
Bret loved German Shepherds, vintage sports logos, vinyl records, and attending every Jimmy Buffett concert for which he could score tickets. He was incredibly skilled at too frequently quoting baseball and 80s movies, taking way too long to tell a story, kicking everyone’s butts in Trivial Pursuit, and whistling loudly at his kids’ sporting events.
Bret was bright, kind, and sensitive. He never failed to make his love known to his family and friends- especially his four children.
Bret is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers: Tim, Dennis, and Tyron Mayne; sister, Candy Foster; and sister-in-law, Mary Mayne. He is survived by his brothers: Ronnie (Emiko) Cooper, and Ray and Mark Mayne; brother-in-law, Charles Foster; his children: Brynne (Nick) Adkins, Burke (Molly) Mayne, Bailee Mayne, and Bryce Mayne; grandchildren: Remington and Rhodes Adkins; especially close nieces and nephews: Paul Mayne, Tracy Walker, Michelle Sands, Crystal Mayne, Amber Mayne, Catrina Williamson, and Charlie Foster; and numerous other cousins, nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
Peace is found knowing Bret is clear and whole once again.
“It’s been a lovely cruise.”
